Gettin' My Mojo Back on the Trails
It's been a while since I've run consistently, and as I closed the door on farming (but left it ajar) I found my desire and energy to run wild again. Nothing ignites my passion for running more than exploring new terrains or rediscovering trails I haven't run in a while. I don't why I keep forgetting that a solid trail run can often get me out of the worst mental funks...
There's a long trail race that's been on my mind for a while. It's called the Tantalus Triple Trek. I actually ran it in 2010 and signed up to do it again last year but got so busy with farming that I cancelled because I didn't do the training. I've been thinking of signing up again this year, but I just don't know what shape I'll be in by then. Still, the thought that I might do it in three months is enough to make me want to get out there and start training. It's a 50k, which would be even farther than my last long run, which was the Honolulu Marathon I didn't train for but finished in 2014.
I've been curious to see where running could take me -- it seems to be one of the few consistent hobbies throughout the last decade of my life, and I think I'm passionate enough about it to want to delve deeper into the world of trail running, especially if combined with travel and writing. For now, I guess I'll just try to be more consistent and see where I end up in a month. I think I also want to make some trail friends so I don't have to go this alone. As I've gotten older, I've wondered how many failure in my life have been due to doing things on my own. I'm a good team player, and I've seen the power of teamwork. Why can't it work in trail running, business, and the rest of life?
