Back in the Saddle Again
I've been on a 7-month-long hiatus from anything that could be considered training, mostly due to nagging lower back pain. I finally got a prescription for some physical therapy and visited the good folks at JACO Rehab. Turns out lots of sitting then trying to run has strained my back because my weak muscles and tight hip flexors aren't doing their job. Hopefully I can fix it and start upping the mileage and frequency of running. In the meantime, I got a new road bike as a wedding gift from my husband, and I've been enjoying it a lot.
I rode Tantalus for the first time since the beginning of the year. I was disappointed with my general fitness and how uncomfortable I felt descending, but I suppose I have my work cut out for me now. I actually went up to the mountain just to climb it and feel free. I don't get to run trails anymore, so this was as close as I could get to running. The best part is cycling doesn't seem to hurt my back!
I'm hoping to be able to complete the Rapha Festive 500 this year, although it'll be even harder than last year because of the days on which the holidays fall. I'd love to ride some roads I've never ridden before; I just hope they're safe enough!
